Audience and institutions part 2

Sequel- A published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one.
Mega Franchise- A piece of media that is created and based off an originally existing franchise of media.
Blockbuster- A thing of great power or size, in particular a film, book, or other product that is a great commercial success.

Media ownership is dominated by the Big 6.
These exist as conglomerates.
Cross Media Ownership is the ownership of multiple by a business or person or corporation. 





Task 3
why did Hollywood switch its focus to megafranchise movies?
There are lots of money in mega franchises as the audience ias already there and so is the material and merchandise.
How are megafranchise movies defined?
A media franchise where many films have been created such as sequels and tv series. 
How important are sequels to the Hollywood film industry?
They help increase profits. 
What is ancillary revenue? How important is it?
It is all the money made outside the box office.
How important are videogames to the film industry?
They help fill the gaps in a film or branch out the universe the film has created. 



Mega Franchise-
A media franchise is a collection of media in which several derivative works have been produced from an original work of media.

Production: (Making Film) inception; optioning; writing the script; pitching to a studio; setting a budget; crewing up; casting; filming; editing. The studio buys the rights; the studio makes a licensing agreement with a distribution company.
Distribution: (The Middle Man) A film distributor is responsible for the marketing of a film. they decide how many copies of the film are made; they negotiate deals to sell the lease to buyers.

Exhibition: (The Screen) how the film reaches the public; cinemas; DVDs; online; TV.
