Representation of Sexuality

Stereotypes
Male- Strong, brooding, well educated, dominant within their relationships, abusive.
Female- Weak, feeble, needs protecting, emotional.
Gay- Feminine, flamboyant, high-pitched, attitude.
Lesbain- Butch, testosterone, built.

Sexuality- A person's sexual orientation or preference.

It links to the pyramid or hierarchy and that those in higher positions can easily manipulate the people.
The media uses archetypes to make the films 'relatable' for the audience because although this may not be a fair representation, its one that society has of certain people e.g dizzy blondes.

Homosexual Males:
Gay men are portrayed as overly effeminate.
This is highly represented within the media with celebrities such as Alan Carr and Graham Norton
There can be the belief that all gay men desire to be women or are feminine
Gay characters are condemned to a life alone without children
Mothers regret being too close to their sons, thinking that is what "made" them gay
The idea is that its just a phase
Drifting from one sexual liaison to another, they end up old and alone;
Gay men are only concerned with sex
Gay men are flamboyant , feminine characters, have camp mannerisms
Represented as often feared, pitied or being the subject of laughter
Gay men do professions like fashions, material design and hair styling
Gay men are often depicted as suffering family rejection

Speak with a lisp

Homosexual Females
Gay women are portrayed as overly masculine
Often represented to be aggressive and mouthy
There is always the ‘masculine’ and the ‘feminine’ partner in any gay female relationship
Drifting from one sexual liaison to another, they end up old and alone
Gay women do jobs such as sports/P.E. teachers and military and are butch lesbians commonly
represented as pursuing heterosexual women.
Gay women are often depicted as suffering family rejection.

Close up shows how uncomfortable one of the men feels to be gay.
'I swing sledge hammers' clearly he feels his job is not something
Wide shot shows the manger refusing to pay the openly gay man.
'Shit stabbing bastard'
' I don't want the police involved'
Close up of an oily mans chest
'There were guys dressed like tarts in there'
All the men are in good shape
Despite being big they were weak and vulnerable.
